Pancake Day originally began on the evening of February 25, 1957, the men of the congregation invited the women and children to an evening of fellowship. Alvin Kauffman then Crystal Spring's pastor, gave the address, and the men treated their families to a sausage feast. From these humble beginnings came the renowned fundraiser held on or near Groundhog Day--now known as Pancake Day.
In 1961, the church hosted its first formal Pancake Day. Since the church had just started on a major building program, all proceeds were used to help pay construction bills. The pancake feed proved to be a popular way of drawing friends from the community and was repeated year after year.
The proceeds of the sale goes to various projects within the community, such as the Lighthouse, the Harper County Ministerial Alliance, Bible school, the food bank, MYF Youth Convention, and people in need.
